Wedding Spotlight: Nicole & Jared

Nicole and Jared’s charming navy blue, gray and coral wedding is a baseball lover’s dream.

Nicole and Jared share a love and passion for baseball – Giant’s baseball to be exact. Their wedding just happened to fall during the 3rd game of the 2014 World Series. They were able to interweave their love throughout the wedding making it a personal and fun filled affair. We think you will agree!

Chris Howard captured their day beautifully for us to share.

Wedding Day Details:

The couple interwove the baseball theme seamlessly throughout their wedding. “We are big baseball fans, so we gave the groomsmen engraved Louisville slugger baseball bats and incorporated them in our pictures.” The groom wore baseball cuff links made from a MLB game used ball, a gift from the bride,  and the happy couple grabbed a glove and bat showing off their playful personalities.

An early morning rain had the couple crossing their fingers that it would clear in time for their outdoor ceremony. “It rained the morning of our wedding and we were unsure if we’d be able to have our wedding ceremony outside, as originally planned. The skies cleared and the morning rain made out for some great lighting throughout the day.”

Was there and overall theme for wedding day?

The ceremony was outside at Haggin Oaks and had more of a rustic feel. Think wine barrels, reclaimed wood “LOVE” sign, personalized corn hole boards and the natural beauty of being in a golf course setting.

A few hanging windows, frames or doors can be used as a creative ceremony backdrop for an “inside” feel outdoors. If you’re ceremony is inside, consider taking advantage of decorating and highlighting large windows as an aisle focal point.Salvaged and antique windows are perfect for vintage weddings. Keep the glass inside the panes or use just the frames as decorations, seating charts, signs or photo props. You can find old windows at flea markets, yard sales, resale shops, or consider renting pieces from a vintage rental company.

The parasol has made a major comeback in the world of weddings. A parasol can be used for photo props, as a wedding accessory and even as wedding decor. From paper to lace to fabric, there are many kinds of parasols to fit all wedding looks and make for an elegant accessory.

Even a mismatched look adds a fun element to accessories for the wedding party. beauty of vintage parasols is that each one is a slightly different. Have a stack of parasols out for your guests at an outdoor wedding, so they can protect themselves from the sun.

Favorite Memory from Wedding Day

It is hard to pick just one moment for our wedding. I know everyone says their wedding is the best day of their life, but ours truly was. If I had to pick jut one, it would be walking down the aisle. The scenery was so beautiful, the decor was amazing and seeing my future husband at the end of the aisle was absolutely amazing.

Five Ways to Use 2016’s Pantone Color of Year

For the first time in history, Pantone named two shades at their annual Color of the Year announcement.

screen-shot-2015-12-03-at-11-16-48-pmWhen Pantone, the color experts, announced their color of the year 2016 to be not one, but two colors, and those colors a pale pink Rose Quartz along with beautifully soft Serenity blue, we knew they were a match made for a wedding.

Last year’s very mature Marsala was lovely, but so difficult to use for a more casual affair. This time we’re over the moon that 2016 is all about freshness and happiness, perfect wedding emotions.  Use them together for a perfectly balanced union, or take either the pink or the blue and pair them with your own choice of greens, purples or shades of yellow and cerise. For an industrial wedding theme add in silver or copper, hot brights introduce more splash and sparkle for a festive affair.

To show you just how pretty this pairing is, we’ve taken this years Pantone shades and created a modern yet very romantic take on the traditional pastel palette…

Dresses

If you consider yourself a bold bride, opt for a blush pink or ice blue wedding dress. Colorful bridal gowns hit the scene a few years ago and they continue to be a hot trend.  Having a more traditional wedding vibe? Choose light airy fabrics in either Rose Quartz, Serenity, or both for the bridal party. Your bridesmaids will look stunning!

Floral Arrangements

While blue flowers may be few and far between, there are a ton in the pink family. Opt for bouquets and centerpieces that are mostly pink but accented with a hint of blue. Or incorporate Serenity using non-floral elements, like ribbon. Thinks peonies, dahlias, garden roses, and hydrangeas. This palette is a florists dream!

floral2Tenth and Grace; One Wed

Menswear
Real mean wear light blue. Either of these shades can work well with a navy or khaki suit or gray tux. Go for it in a light blue suit, or look for ties and pocket squares that use Rose Quartz or Serenity. Complete the look with a coordinated boutonniere.

groomswear1Ben Yew; Paula O’Hara

Makeup
Keep it classic and in the Rose Quartz family with a soft, natural look. Rosy cheeks and a pink lip makes a classic look for the bride and bridal party. What better day is there to try a sparkly pink-and-gold manicure?

Makeup_1588-700x503Left: Pinterest; Right: Pinterest

Sweets
We bet Rose Quartz and Serenity taste as good as they look. From cakes to macarons, and every sweet in between, look for tasty treats in these two shades to bring Pantone’s Colors of the Year to your wedding’s final course.

As you can see with two colors at play this year, there are countless opportunities for pairings.

koa-kea-hawaiian-hotel[1]Honeymoon

Use that money to pay for the flight to your honeymoon destination!  With flights averaging $500/roundtrip to places like Hawaii, Mexico, or even the Bahamas..your savings will not only get you there and back from your destination (first class anyone!?), but you’ll most likely still have money left over that you can use towards upgrading your room or pampering yourselves while you’re relaxing in paradise.

romantic-2011-vera-wang-wedding-dresses-loads-of-tulle-draping__full[1]Dress

Maybe you had your heart set on a designer gown, but couldn’t find extra money in your budget to actually buy it?  Well with an extra $2,000+ in your pocket, those dreams could become a reality.

House Down Paymentwhite-house-green-shutters-2[1]

Okay yeah it might sound really boring and practical, but adding $2,000 towards a down payment of your future home can actually be a big deal.  The money would be going towards building a future together, and unlike your wedding day, you’ll have the house for years to come.

Inspiration Board │ Chandeliers

Whether your sitting on your couch flipping through your wedding magazines or browsing at Pinterest, you can’t look anywhere these days without seeing one thing… chandeliers.  They’re everywhere!  Hanging from trees.. the focal point of an alter.. hovering over each table at a reception.. everywhere you look – there they are.  It’s really no wonder either, chandeliers are an easy way to add a touch of elegance without having to rent out an over-priced, stuffy ballroom.

With their popularity on the rise, you can find every shape, size and color almost anywhere. And even better, some places have them for fairly cheap like Ikea and Target, or most boutique rental companies like The Find in Sacramento offer them for a decent price.

There are so many opportunities to incorporate chandeliers at the Pavilion or Lakeside.  Check out our ideas below that show how these lighting fixtures can be used in your wedding ceremony and reception at either of our locations.

Hanging Centerpiece {Wedding Ceremony}

couples3bartley alter

Both of our locations have gorgeous white gazebos where many couples choose to get married.  How gorgeous would it be to have a hanging chandelier above the two of you as you says your vows?  Well take a look at the pictures below for a little inspiration of how you can spruce up the scenery of your “I Do” moment.

Look Up From Your Table {Wedding Reception}

reception4venue6

Now luckily for you, at the Pavilion we are already one step ahead and have chandeliers hanging from our white tent inside.  That doesn’t mean Lakeside can’t have them as well.  Chandeliers on the outdoor patio not only would look amazing and add a romantic lighting to your reception, but with the large high beams that stretch out across the patio, they can be easily hung and are much easier to light than lanterns since you won’t have to worry about your battery powered lights dying half-way through the night.

Light Up The Party {Wedding Reception}

couples9HeritageOak

In the garden area of the Pavilion stands our Heritage Oak tree that is over 148 years old.  Even without lighting, this tree is breathtaking all by itself, but if you are looking to add a little flare and that “awww” effect to your outdoor reception area, think about hanging a few chandeliers from this magnificent piece natural structure.  Imagine how amazing it would look with your guests sitting on our outdoor patio furniture and dimmed chandeliers are hanging right above them…  Picture perfect.

Champagne Brunch Wedding

mimosa-barFrench-Toast-and-Mixed-Berries

Just combining the words champagne and brunch and you know you are in for a good time.  These days, brunch receptions have become more popular than ever.  And why wouldn’t they?  Not only are you usually saving money on rental costs, but the price for a brunch vs. dinner can be quite a big difference.

At both of our locations, your guests would never be able to guess how much you really are saving just by choosing to do a day wedding.  You still get exactly the same accommodations, same amount of time as you would an evening ceremony, and our Brunch Menu not only is HALF the price of our buffet menu, but also INCLUDES champagne!

Still need more reasons of why you should book a day wedding vs. an evening?  Keep reading…

Short on time for photos?  Forget about it.  197118_1951119263852_1868137_n 529250_3274671265538_1179816343_n

Running out of light for your pictures after the ceremony will not be an issue.  You would be amazed how many brides do not allot enough time for pictures to be taken after the wedding ceremony and are scrambling after the ceremony with their photographers to get in last minute shots before the sun sets.

Your bar tab will be less expensive.rachelle-stephen-011-450x299

So you’ve decided you really want to host the bar for your wedding, but you’re afraid your friends and family are going to drink you into bankruptcy… A daytime wedding is the answer for you.  We guarantee you that people are less likely to drink as much during the day than they would at night.  Now does that mean people are going to be an absolute bore and no one will be drinking and have a good time?  Of course not.  No doubt you and your friends will still be hitting the dance floor after a couple of our unlimited mimosas, but maybe you’ll be saving your favorite aunt from a snap shot of herself passed out behind the DJ’s table.

 You can get creative.

wedding-dessert-bar-002[1]IMG_3859_500w[1]

If you really want your wedding to truly stand out in people’s minds, consider all of the fun concepts you can embrace with a daytime wedding.  We’ve all had a piece of cake and eaten it too (well actually more like taken a bite and pushed it to the side), so give your guests a more enjoyable option than a boring piece of cake.  Have a doughnut bar, tea and cookie or espresso and biscotti display instead!  Maybe you’re like us and would choose a Bloody Mary over champagne any day – well your dreams are about to come true when your eyes feast over the Bloody Mary Bar below.  And don’t worry it’s not just limited to food, have a game and activities area for all of your friends and family to enjoy! (At Lakeside our putting green area is just below our patio and the Pavilion has plenty of space for bocce ball or any outdoor games you and your friends love to play.)

Your vendors may be cheaper.

Some companies will actually offer you discounts on daytime weddings, especially if you choose to hold your ceremony and reception on a Sunday.  As you’re researching vendors, ask them what incentives or discounts they offer.  Photo booth rentals, photographers, DJs, rental companies… you’ll be surprised just how much you can really save!

DIY | Cutting More Than Cake….. Easy Ways to Cut Costs

If you’ve ever sat down with our director Rebecca, you know two things right off the bat: she’s right to the point (alright let’s just say it – no bullsh**) and second, if we can find ways to cut the costs for you, we are going to let you know how to do it.

Now of course most of the time that can be as simple as developing a bar set-up that doesn’t have you going bankrupt after the wedding because your friends’ favorite drink just so happens to be Macallan scotch whiskey.  But we are always more than happy to suggest ideas for your wedding that will not only catch your guests’ attention, but keep you from breaking the bank as well!

Forget the flowers

Gone are the days where centerpieces strictly have to be all about flowers.  More and more these days, designers are breaking boundaries with what is placed on guest’s tables at the reception.  And with rustic weddings emerging as this year’s must-have look, it’s no surprise why everything from antiques to classic novels are being used as decor.  The best part?  Most of these items can easily be found at garage sales, thrift shops or maybe even your own home!  Fill your space with classic love novels with your favorite quotes peeking out like the picture below, or mix and match antique silver – since most people don’t really care about silver once it’s rusted, you most likely will be able to get it for a cheap price!

Mason jars

Sure we’ve all seen the pictures on Pinterest or have been to some type of event where the host has utilized them in some way.  But we are taking mason jars one step further.  Instead of simply using the jars in one aspect of your wedding or event, incorporate them throughout your entire event.  Better yet, use the same mason jar for multiple purposes – have a mason jar at each person’s seat at the reception with the guest’s name on the jar.  Not only will it be their glassware for the night, but can serve as their seating card (and if you make them really cute, their party favor!) Check out these other great ideas that will make you (and even your wallet) happy too!

Our favorite part?  1.) You won’t be bummed or out a ton of money when your guests ask to take a centerpiece homeand 2.) Mason jars can be reused.  Use them again as centerpieces in your own home. Have them as extra everyday drinking glasses.  Keep the lids and use them for food storage.  The possibilities are endless.

Who needs cake?

If you’ve ever read any wedding planning book or talked to anyone in the industry, the first thing they usually tell you is the biggest waste of money is the cake.  Now not only is this because half the time couples end up with a TON of leftover cake, that let’s face it, most likely will just be thrown away. But the cake cutting fee is more often than not completely forgotten about when couple’s sit down to make their budget for the reception.  With some places charging up to almost $10 a person nowadays, that’s right folks you heard us correctly..  not only will you be paying a good amount of money to have a half-eaten wedding cake at your reception, but be expected at some places to add a few extra hundred dollars to that price tag for the cake cutting.  Now we are lucky enough at the Pavilion to be pretty lenient when it comes to our cake cutting fee, but why not just forget about that worry all together and get creative with your dessert!  There’s no doubting that cupcakes in the past couple years have become the obvious choice, but don’t be afraid to have fun with this part.  Incorporate the sweets that you LOVE.  Chocoholic?  Make a chocolate bar.  Love camping?  Set out a s’more station.  You’ll have a hard time choosing just one after you see all of these YUMMY ideas!

One of our grooms this last year was the “ultimate candy lover” according to the bride.  She surprised him with a candy bar complete with every type of candy he loves.  You can bet his eyes lit up when he saw that table as he entered the reception area!
