What is the creative process like?  How do you work with couples to bring their vision to life?

A wedding day should reflect the couple’s personality. We will typically meet in person, review pinterest boards, and then offer creative ways to decorate and personalize their wedding to truly make it theirs.

Do you currently have any favorite wedding trends?

I love blush, champagnes, gold and fresh greenery. An Urban Chic with elegant vibes. Mixing touches of vintage décor with over the top elegant pieces. I love the fresh garland as well as the open, airy floral centerpieces. I adore the fresh green hanging floral centerpieces, adorned with soft florals. I don’t think I will ever tire of the mismatched mercury pieces mixed with vintage wood.

Are there any trends you never want to see again?

I really do not like the fabric hanging from the tree branch as the ceremony backdrop. Unless you have the perfect space, with the perfect tree and the perfect climate, the fabric tends to blow in the wind and looks awful in images. Its too hard to control the outcome of this look.

Any advice for a bride and groom currently in the midst of planning a wedding?

Set a budget and stick to it. PLEASE do not go into a new marriage with a huge debt over your head. Choose the things that are important to you and let the rest go. Your family and friends are here to celebrate your special day with you. You do not have to compete with others. Your wedding should reflect your love for each other. It should be a day filled with fun and excitement.

What makes your work unique?  Why should brides and grooms hire you?

I think when you walk into my office you get the feeling that you are home. My two boston terriers stand guard at the entrance waiting to greet each client as they come in. If I don’t charm you, they will for sure!!! I am down to earth, very relaxed, and I feel that I send out welcoming vibes. I am very upfront, and allow you to be very open and honest with the goal that you are wanting to achieve. I am extremely budget conscious, and every aspect of our design, whether rustic or glam, has a feel of elegance and romance to it. Don’t be fooled… Just because my business name has the word COUNTRY in it, does not mean we are not capable of designing an elegant, over the top affair. Country to me, is a feeling rather than a look. Its LOVE. Its FAMILY. Its WELCOME. We love the opportunity to welcome your guests to the wedding you have dreamed about.

What does a typical day at the office look like?

Dogs snoring while I answer emails, Dogs playing ball with my clients while we choose rental items, and lots of music and laughter. We are pretty relaxed while we work. And the dogs sure keep things interesting for us around the office.

We get a lot of brides that want that rustic, romantic look for their wedding day, do you have any advice or ideas for them on how to incorporate that look into the overall feel for the day?

I would make sure to incorporate the different elements into their look. Weathered wood with new wood. Mismatched décor with different textures can be very welcoming and fun. Leather chairs mixed with fun sequin pillows, candleholders in all different materials, chunky and slim in different colors. Some new some old. And lots of florals.

Thank you so much, Ramona for letting us behind the curtain at Simple Country Weddings.

Wedding Spotlight: Alison & Craig

Alison and Craig were engaged on Valentine’s Day 2016, so I knew this would be the perfect wedding for today’s heart filled post. It’s filled with so much love and beautiful rustic details from TinRoof Farmhouse. Lyndsay Undseth was there to capture Alison and Craig’s magical day.

From the bride: We went to high school together but started hanging out and then dating through mutual friends during college -10 years ago – in December 2006. On Valentine’s Day (Alison’s favorite holiday) weekend 2016, Craig took me to Costanoa, a rustic resort that is a special place to us that we’ve been a few times and love, the first place he ever took me when we first started dating, and proposed on the beach. He pretended to be taking a self-timed picture, but was actually video-taping the proposal!

Sacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento Wedding2016-11-18_0006Sacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingFrom the Bride: My favorite memory is hearing Craig’s vows, which he wrote himself and were a surprise the day of the wedding. They were so personal and perfect that I had to hug him afterward, which made all our guests laugh.

Sacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento Wedding2016-11-18_0022Sacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingSacramento WeddingOur favorite detail was the huge wooden L-O-V-E letters that we rented from Tin Roof Farmhouse.  We went back and forth a lot on whether or not to rent them and then whether or not to have them outside (since there was rain in the forecast) and we were SO happy that we rented them and had them outside because so many people took pictures in front of them (couples, groups of friends, families etc.) and it made me so happy and contributed to our “love” theme!Sacramento WeddingWe also had a Sacramento theme with each table named after a place, team. etc. in Sacramento (e.g., Tower Bridge, River Cats). Each table number card had the table number and name on the front and a picture of Craig and me at that place on the back with a description of how it relates to us. We also had two kegs of beer that Craig and my dad brewed especially for our wedding at Yolo Brewing Company – a blonde ale and a scotch ale with names representing the bride and groom – the Sweet Blonde and the Tall Scotch and Handsome.2016-11-18_00242016-11-18_0025Musical Choices:

We wanted our wedding to be somewhat casual (not too formal), but still classy, beautiful, romantic, intimate and mostly just full of LOVE! I would say they fully succeeded.

102916-873

What was it about the Pavilion at Haggin Oaks that made you say “yes to the venue”?
From the Bride: I love twinkle lights and oak trees, and Craig loves golf (and used to practice at Haggin Oaks with his high school golf team!) Haggin Oaks was actually the only venue we looked at in person. When we went there to see the venue and saw that it had an oak tree and twinkle lights (AND a gazebo, which reminded me of Gilmore Girls, a show I love) and a simple tent with beautiful chandeliers, I really couldn’t think of anything else I would want in a venue. I love that Haggin Oaks has a few beautiful features but that it’s otherwise a simple, classic beautiful blank slate for you to add your own personal touches. It just fit our style and tastes more than fancy, ornate venues I’ve seen (which are beautiful, but just didn’t feel like a good fit for us). We love the outdoors – camping, backpacking, hiking, biking and running – and wanted an outdoor component (with a built-in backup option!) – and we lucked out on weather and were able to have the simple, classic, romantic indoor/outdoor wedding of our dreams!

Congratulations + Best Wishes + Happy Valentine’s Day to Alison and Craig!

Wedding Spotlight: Brenda and Thomas

Brenda and Thomas’ blush, gold, navy blue wedding had me at hello.  Their wedding incorporated two of my loves – a rustic, romantic vibe with chalkboard and burlap accents. Let’s proceed to the party + see their rustic chic wedding photographed beautifully by Angelee Arceo.

img_9041-zf-7203-85538-1-012

From the bride: Thomas and I met a little over 3 years ago through mutual friends whom I had reconnected with after a couple years. We realized we had crossed paths before but never had officially met until then. We got engaged the morning of October 12, 2015, while on a family vacation in Hawaii. We had arrived the day before and had been running errands all day long. That night his mother, aunt and I were on the deck relaxing listening to the waves and admiring the starry sky when we saw shooting stars. I told the ladies make a wish (apparently he heard me). The next morning, I woke up to him say, “What did you wish for?” and I kept telling him, “I can’t tell you, if I do it will not come true.”  He kept insisting I tell him, and I continued to repeat my reasoning for not saying. Then he magically pulled a box from I don’t know where and asked, “Is this what you wished for? And opening it. Then he asked if I would marry him, and of course I said Yes, with tears flowing down my face. That magical moment brought us to an even more magical wedding.

img_9061-zf-7203-85538-1-014From the bride: Start planning as soon as you can. Find your venue and set the date, you really can’t do anything until this is set. Keep lists, spreadsheets on excel were my best friends. I had a crazy spreadsheet that I would have been lost without. It contained all the following to keep track of everything: guest name (individually, helped me know our headcount), mailing address, if the invite was mailed, hand delivered, response card received, not received, food choice (if you are having platted), I had a column for each of our choices, chicken, steak, vegan, gift column makes writing thank you cards so much easier, and a column saying I mailed my thank you cards out. It truly was my best friend.  Also if you are sending response cards assign each card a specific number that matches your spreadsheet that way if someone sends it back without names, or does not, you can reference your list and know who it is, or who is missing.

At one point around 11:30 p.m. when I had changed dresses everyone was inside under the tent dancing and no one was in the lovely lounge area outside under the lights. We walked out there and just slow danced, smiling and enjoying a moment where everything was quiet around us and just enjoyed the fact that we had survived all the months of planning and were finally Mr. & Mrs. Quezada.

From the bride: We really wanted to find a magical open place and The Pavilion at Haggin Oaks was that for us. The moment we walked into that tent and looked out towards the golf course we were sold. We had been on the search for a venue that had all the requirements we wanted. It provided a lovely area for a ceremony, if it was hot the tent provided shade, the grounds were lovely, the white drapery and chandeliers gave that romantic vibe we wanted. As well you can’t beat a place that provides everything, (tables, chairs, linens, napkins, all the plates, glasses, etc.) Truly made the planning process so much easier, and the best part, only one wedding per day so you can be there early setting up and start as late as you want. I arrived at 10am and our wedding didn’t start until 6:30 p.m. and ended at 12:30 a.m. We loved that you provided golf carts to transport our guests, especially since we had elderly people at our wedding.

Congratulations + Best Wishes to Brenda and Thomas!

Wedding Spotlight: Eliza and Keean

You know when you see a photo and it just stops you in your tracks? Gives you goosebumps? Literally takes your breath away? That is EXACTLY how I felt when I opened up the gallery for today’s wedding spotlight. The super talented Lyndsay Undseth was kind of enough to share Eliza and Keean’s beautiful wedding photographs with us.

From the bride: We wanted to have a romantic, classic and fun wedding. A day that would represent both of our styles and our unique relationship while still being timeless. We were able to achieve that thanks to our wonderful vendors. Our colors of blush pink and gold went perfectly with the natural beauty of the venue.

The cutest ring security ever!
Haggin Oaks Wedding_0020From the Groom: We met early in high school and started dating shortly after meeting each other in class. Although we chose to attend different colleges, we worked through the challenges of being apart and realized that our life was meant to be together. During our junior year of college, Eliza was supposed to be going on a lunch date with one of her eventual bridesmaids. Instead, I had her bridesmaid send her on a scavenger hunt across different memories in our relationship. The last clue ended with her finding me in a park, where I played “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on the ukulele, which ended up being our first dance song, before proposing.Haggin Oaks Wedding_0021

From the groom: I think we both had pretty high expectations for our vision of our wedding day, but wanted to stay within our budget. The Pavilion at Haggin Oaks gave us the flexibility to make our entire vision a reality, not just having one or two parts of it like at other venues. Not only that, but the venue itself has natural beauty. Since we wanted a summer, evening wedding, we felt the need to be outside under the lights. The wonderful turfed area gave us that feel and it was already part of the venue. It was a blank canvas that we could mold into the perfect site for our wedding day. It was everything we could have asked for.

From the bride: We spent a lot of time searching for a venue; we both were picky and needed to find something that was perfect. When we came across The Pavilion at Haggin Oaks I loved it before we even had a chance to visit it. At the time Keean and I were still in a long distance relationship, so I sent him to visit the site and hoped he liked it in person just as much as I did from photos.  He did! This venue had natural beauty, a variety of options so you can personalize your day and a great staff that we were able to work with.Haggin Oaks Wedding_0051

From the Bride: We incorporated a handful of traditions into out wedding. Our something old was a small ring my dad gave me when he and my mom got married. I was only seven years old so now the ring barely fits on my pinky, I tied it onto my bouquet so I had it with me the whole day. Something New: A beautiful pearl necklace my grandmother gave me specifically for the special day. Something borrowed and blue: A blue aquamarine ring my grandmother has had for many years, she let me use it as my something borrowed and something blue for the day.

1001 Cranes: A tradition passed down in Hawaiian cultures that acts as a test for the new couple to work through the trial of creating 1001 cranes for peace and harmony in their relationship, which became part of our head table backdrop.Haggin Oaks Wedding_0059
Haggin Oaks Wedding_0060From the groom: Our head table may have been the best detail of the day. We had a vision for what it would look like and it came out even better than we had anticipated with the rentals we got from Simple Country Weddings and our 1001 cranes.Haggin Oaks Wedding_0061

Haggin Oaks Wedding_0062

Haggin Oaks Wedding_0063From the groom: Our wedding day had so many amazing memories that I will remember forever. The moment that brings out the strongest emotions would be at the start of our reception. I think entering the reception as the new “Mr. and Mrs.” finally let the emotions of everything my wife and I have worked at in our relationship come to fruition. The excitement of the moment overwhelmed me in our entrance proving that everything was real. It was truly a wonderful feeling.Haggin Oaks Wedding_0064

Haggin Oaks Wedding_0073

Haggin Oaks Wedding_0068From the bride: I have so many favorite memories from that day, but one of them would have to be our first dance. During the dance it was like no one else was there with us and for those few minutes Keean and I were able to soak in every bit of love we had for each other with no distractions. It was a perfect way for us to appreciate all the time we put into planning that day and reflect on our journey of being together.Haggin Oaks Wedding_0069

Would you have any advice for those that are planning a wedding?

From the groom: First off, when planning a wedding you should never lose sight of the excitement and joy that you will be preparing for. Even though it gets stressful, you should never lose sight that you are planning a wonderful day that will be a memory for the rest of your life. It is a happy day, never a stressful one.

From the bride: Secondly, when your day comes, remember that no matter what happens don’t let it get to you. You have worked so hard to make that day perfect; don’t spend it being stressed or angry. The most important part of that day is being happy, finding joy no matter what happens and celebrating you and your partner.

Congratulations and Best Wishes, Eliza and Keean!

Pantone’s 2017 Color of Year is Perfect for a Golf Course Wedding

Are you as in love with the Pantone Color of the Year as I am? Greenery is a shade that reminds me of spring – it’s fresh, organic, vibrant, and revitalizing, and it’s the perfect color for a golf course wedding. Pantone describe it as “symbolic of new beginnings” and what is more of a new beginning than a wedding? Alla and Viktor’s wedding incorporates this color beautifully and shows how sometimes simple is better. Thank you to Anna Perevertaylo for the gorgeous photographs!

61

6566If you’re a bride on a budget, all-greenery bouquets will always be much more affordable than fresh flowers. Plus, they look gorgeous when paired with a white wedding gown! It’s a win, win if you ask me.

The “zesty yellow-green” shade can be used in a wide variety of wedding details, including but not limited to bouquets, table runners, bridesmaid dresses, and boutonnieres..

From the Bride: Don’t stress the details. Remember that at the end of the day its about getting married to the person you love surrounded by people who support you. Make the day about the two of you and let the little details fall into place.

abcd8722-copyFrom the Bride: I incorporated the tradition of something old, something borrowed and something blue. My mom bought a new diamond bracelet and gave it to me while getting ready expressing that ‘diamonds are old’ My shoes were new and I added pearls and rhinestones to the strap. I borrowed the headband I wore from my best friend’s wedding. And I wore blue panties as my something blue! :)

From the Bride: We first fell in love with the look of the venue from the outdoor cocktail area to the white drapery inside. Once meeting with the coordinators we knew that this was the place for us. The laid back and elegant vibe of Haggin Oaks was perfect. We got such a positive vibe upon our tour, not only the location but with the coordinators as well.

Happy Friday! I love, love, love the little flower girl pictured above. If there was an award for best side eye, she would win all of them. I’ve collected a few fun links from around the blogosphere to brighten up this cold and rainy Friday.

Looking for an iconic fragrance for your big day?

You know the pact you made with your friend back in college….

Would you pay someone to come up with your wedding hashtag?

Plus, three past posts you may have missed:
* Wedding Spotlight: Liz and Dave’s rustic chic wedding
* Add a little something to your thank you note
* Jessica Roman’s romantic and lush photography

To say I love weddings would be stating the obvious. But a big part of that love is because of all the hard work photographers do to capture the very best, most memorable moments. Jessica Roman’s photos are bursting with rich tones and romantic energy, and have a simple and understated elegance.  I am delighted each time I see Jessica’s work and wanted you to get to know the lovely woman behind the camera!

What led you to wedding photography?

I have always loved documenting life…memories are so incredibly precious.  After my own wedding, I became passionate about this media of story telling and have been so blessed that my career has taken off so organically.

How long have you been a photographer?

6 years

What do you love most about being a photographer in the Sacramento area?

We have some of the most incredible sunsets—not to mention we are just a few hour drive from some of the most incredible scenery in the world. San Francisco, Yosemite, Carmel, Lake Tahoe to name a few.

haggin-oaks-wedding-photographer-jessica-roman-photography-sacramento-wedding-photographer-bray-578What do you love most about photographing weddings?

I am preserving individuals’ most precious of milestones.  When my clients look back on their images, my goal is to have them be teleported back to that precise moment—to feel the love, excitement, and pure joy.

If you only had 3 words to describe photography style what would they be?

Photojournalistic, authentic, romantic

If you could tell a soon-to-be bride and groom one thing about photography on their wedding day, what would it be?

Breathe–Pause and just “be in the moment”.  I make conscious efforts throughout the day to tell my bride and groom to just breathe and focus on the emotion they are feeling right that very moment, and how they feel.  I ensure that our photography time is efficient, yet delivers a gorgeous product, so our bride and groom can maximize the celebration with their loved ones!  The day is so fleeting, so having a groups of professionals they trust is essential to enjoying each and every last drop of it.

Haggin Oaks Wedding Photographer Jessica Roman Photography Sacramento Wedding Photographer Bray-765Any favorite wedding trends happening right now?

I am moderately obsessed with flowers crowns, classic black tuxes, and “rat pack” style glam.

Do you have a travel policy?

I’ve got a passport in hand and a list of “bucket list” destinations I would be willing to shoot clients wedding complimentary in exchange for the travel fees.

What makes your photography unique?

I genuinely believe in telling the true and authentic story of my couple’s day.  I do not like to “re-create” key shots like zipping the dress, seeing one another the first time, and genuine laughter.  My clients are more than just another bride and groom—they are my friends and their trust and happiness in the investment is essential to my fulfillment in this career.

haggin-oaks-wedding-photographer-jessica-roman-photography-sacramento-wedding-photographer-bray-540Do you believe in the “first look” concept and why would you recommend to a bride and groom?

I think it truly depends on the individual bride and groom—but I will say, weddings that do utilize a “first look” tend to go much more smoothly and have a much more relaxed feel.  When you are able to have all the bridal party and family portraits done pre-ceremony, then even the guests have a better memory of their experience of your day.
